Netflix Reportedly Releasing A ‘GTA’ Game

1 years ago By AI Smith

Being one of the world’s giant streaming services, Netflix has some tricks up its sleeve. One of the arenas they are currently mastering is the Gaming industry right in the Netflix application! With intentions to introduce video games by 2022, Netflix recruited Mike Verdu, a former executive from Electronic Arts and Facebook, as vice president of game development in July 2021. Plans to release mobile games that were part of the service’s subscription packages were revealed by Netflix. In August 2021, a trial program for Netflix customers in Poland was introduced. Through the Netflix mobile app, members may download premium mobile games based on Stranger Things, such as Stranger Things 3: The Game, for free.

On November 2, 2021, Netflix formally released mobile games for Android customers worldwide. Members may play five games for free on the app, including two of the older Stranger Things games. Over time, Netflix plans to expand its selection of games. The set debuted on iOS on November 9. In October 2022, Verdu stated that they were considering cloud gaming solutions in addition to keeping up with game development.

In order to help with the gaming endeavor, Netflix started founding and purchasing many studios. In September 2021, the business bought the indie video game developer Night School Studio. Aiming to expand into the gaming industry, Netflix revealed intentions to pay €65 million in March 2022 to purchase Next Games. Next Games was the developer of two The Walking Dead mobile games in addition to the mobile app Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales. Additionally, later in the month, Netflix paid an unknown amount to purchase Boss Fight Entertainment, a Texas-based mobile game developer. In September 2022, Netflix established a mobile gaming studio in Helsinki, Finland. In October 2022, the company acquired Spry Fox in Seattle and created a new studio—its fifth overall—in southern California.

Netflix has had trouble getting users to pay attention ever since Netflix Games debuted in 2021. The majority of the company’s collection has been centered around streaming series like Sonic Prime, The Queen’s Gambit, and Stranger Things, but it appears Netflix is making a significant effort to grow. A recent Wall Street Journal story claims that Netflix is attempting to strengthen its services by luring in independent publishers like Take-Two Interactive. The news outlet’s sources say Netflix is attempting to get a Grand Theft Auto game on the platform.

There may be a new Grand Theft Auto game coming to Netflix Games.

Reports state that the game will probably be a mobile game offshoot rather than the much-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI, as playing Netflix games on a smartphone is presently the only way to access them. The service recently bought a number of game production companies, and it is currently in talks with Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of the Grand Theft Auto video game property, about licensing a GTA game.

It’s unclear right now if Netflix intends to add a new game or an already-existing Grand Theft Auto game to their library of video games. Currently, only games that are accessible on Netflix may be played via the mobile app. Just as with games from the App Store or Google Play, users may download a variety of games to their mobile devices. The main distinction is that Netflix does not provide in-app purchases for mobile games that are downloaded.

Grand Theft Auto – What Could The Game Be About?

Following the revelation, a lot of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars fans pointed out on social media that the Netflix format might work well for a remake or sequel. A portable version of the Grand Theft Auto series, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was initially published on the Nintendo DS and then converted to the PSP, iOS, and Android platforms. With a top-down view, the game gave an angle more akin to the previous two Grand Theft Auto games. The game received widespread acclaim and many accolades from different publications after becoming an enormous critical hit.

A Netflix-exclusive sequel to Chinatown Wars may be quite popular given the positive reviews it has received over the years. Currently, Netflix Games is only a benefit for members; but, a significant exclusive might make it much more. It’s difficult to say if Take-Two would ever consider something along those lines, but it’s understandable why Netflix may be interested in releasing a Grand Theft Auto of its own.

According to an expert who spoke with the Wall Street Journal, Netflix has already spent an incredible $1 billion USD on games. As they aim to add more game executives, they will probably extend their gaming service to include AAA titles. But it’s unclear if this change will result in a greater number of subscribers.

Everything You Need To Know About Netflix Games’ Prospects For the Future

It’s uncertain right now what Netflix’s plans are for its video gaming service in the future. If the corporation can get more people to play its games, its enormous subscriber base might make it a formidable power. Even with the addition of popular titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, the firm has faced difficulties in maintaining that during the past two years. However a well-known exclusive may quickly change that perception and establish Netflix as a significant force in the video gaming market. It’s unclear if that will truly occur or if the business will have its own Grand Theft Auto.

It is anticipated that GTA VI, a game developed by Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games, will launch somewhere between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025. In a prior CNBC interview, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, stated that the company “has a very robust pipeline of titles” and that they have “a great outlook for fiscal 2025,” in which they may bring in around $8 billion USD in net bookings. GTA VI may be the game that provides them with that.

So, while we wait for GTA 6 to drop, Netflix Games’ plans for including a Grand Theft Auto Game may get the attention of the game’s massive fanfare!
