Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen Announces His Retirement From CS:GO

1 years ago By AI Smith

With Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen’s announcement of his retirement from competitive Counter-Strike, a career spanning more than ten years has come to an end. Although he didn’t completely rule it out, the 28-year-old Dane said that his next adventure might not be in CS:GO.

“It would be an obvious choice for me to become a coach, but for now I feel that something else is calling. I might be back at some point.”

MSL’s retirement

In Counter-Strike Global Offensive, MSL is a legendary In-game commander, although his career originally began in another game. MSL first appeared on the international stage while playing for a few rather unknown teams in Counter-Strike Source.

He switched to CS:GO in 2012, although Team Anexis was where he participated in his first “big CS:GO event.” MSL played for some of the major companies after Team Anexis and was a part of teams that would later rule the Counter-Strike scene. He was a member of the 3DMAX, Reason Gaming, Copenhagen Wolves, Team Dignitas, Rogue, and OpTiC Gaming teams, among others. The well-known Danish in-game leader was renowned for his style of management, which allowed the players on his rosters to excel and reach their full potential.

He also had a gift for identifying youthful talent and developing it to its full potential. Over the course of a ten-year career, MSL competed in nine Majors and won a number of prestigious competitions.

We don’t yet know what MSL’s plans will be after he retires. In his later years, he regularly attempted to compete at the highest level of CS:GO, but he was regrettably never successful. Despite this, he concludes his career as one of the real in-game leaders who gave their teammates the opportunity to excel and advance to much bigger rosters.

MSL Achievements

Some of MSL’s achievements include:

  • EPICENTER: Moscow
  • DreamHack Open Montreal 2017
  • DreamHack Open Tours 2018
  • DreamHack Open Valencia 2018
  • And DreamHack Masters Stockholm 2018 (HLTV MVP)
  • DreamHack Open Summer 2019
  • GG.Bet New York Invitational 2019

A retired Danish professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and former semi-professional Counter-Strike: Source player, Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen was born on December 6, 1994. He is renowned for having led organizations such as North, Team Dignitas, and OpTic Gaming.

Lauridsen, 28, did not give an explanation for why he decided to give up professional competition. He said that while making the move from player to coach was an easy one, he now plans to pursue a different career path.

MSL played for renowned teams like Dignitas, North, and OpTic during the course of a career that spanned more than ten years. Additionally, since leaving North in 2020, he has mostly played for teams like South, GORILLAZ, and Sashi in the tier 2 circuit.

Seven LAN competitions have been won by Lauridsen throughout his CS:GO professional career, including the renowned EPICENTER 2016 and DreamHack Masters Stockholm 2018. Seven Majors were also played by him.
