LEGO Announces Super Mario Piranha Plant

1 years ago By AI Smith

Fans of LEGO and Nintendo have teamed up. With LEGO’s newest kit, a 540-piece Piranha Plant from Super Mario, a piece of the Mushroom Kingdom can be brought into homes all across the world in time for the holiday season.

The LEGO Group stated on September 21 that the planned set is the most recent effort to introduce the LEGO Super Mario theme to adult consumers. The Mighty Bowser, a Super Mario 64 Block, and LEGO’s interpretation of the Nintendo Entertainment System are some of the other Super Mario-themed kits in the collection geared toward adults.

The LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant (71426) costs $59.99 in the United States, which is comparable to the cost of the company’s Botanical Collection. It’s something of a value compared to other of LEGO’s more complex sets (not to mention names, but the LEGO Titanic costs a whopping $679.99). See some pictures down below.

A Piranha Plant with pointed teeth can be seen emerging from the new set’s green, constructible conduit. The plant’s physical features, including its polka-dotted head and its spiky leaves, may all be altered to create stances that are suitable for photography. The LEGO Group stated in a news statement that creators have the freedom to “create from the bottom up, so the Piranha Plant emerges as if it’s growing out of the pipe.”

“When designing the Piranha Plant, it felt important to capture its distinctive features and ensure that the set could be positioned in a way that reflects its iconic poses,” Carl Merriam, a senior designer for LEGO Super Mario, said in the press release. “I’m so proud of the finished result, from the mouth to the leaves and stalk, we’ve managed to perfectly portray the menacing essence of the Piranha Plant!”

Along with the building supplies, there will also be two gold coins that can be kept in the pipe, just like money, for safekeeping.

The buildable replica, at little over nine inches high and 4.5 inches broad, is the ideal complement to any bookshelf, desk, or display case.

Although the collectable figure won’t be offered for sale until Nov. 6 both online and in stores, interested customers can review the set’s specifications on the LEGO website. A terrifying Piranha Plant appears to be featured in the upcoming Super Mario set that LEGO has previewed.

Although a release date for this new set has not been specified, it is rumored to be “waking soon” in allusion to the sleeping Piranha Plant in Whomp’s Fortress from Super Mario 64. Additionally, the Piranha Plant’s Lullaby music from the N64 game is heard in the brief teaser trailer.

A LEGO set expansion featuring Larry and Morton and their airships was added to the Super Mario line earlier this year. Some Donkey Kong sets have also been available in stores.

The Super Mario Bros. video game from 1985 features the Piranha Plant for the first time in the “World 1-2” level. It is green in color and looks to hunt and eat by lifting its head into the air and biting anything that moves into its path at that precise instant. In Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, which was originally the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2, red-colored Piranha Plant variations can be found. It moves much quickly than the original green version, which was green, and is brazen enough to emerge from a warp pipe even while the player character is standing right next to it, reflecting the increased difficulty of Lost Levels.

A Piranha Plant type that could spit fireballs as a ranged weapon was first presented in Super Mario Bros. 3 as the Venus Fire Trap. Its head is twisted to the side, pointed at the player character, and its top is smooth and rounded, breaking with earlier game’s visual norms. The Ptooie, a walking variation of the Piranha Plant that exhales air to lift a spiky ball into the air to obstruct the player character’s movement, is another variety of Piranha Plant that makes an appearance in Super Mario Bros. 3.
