5 Knives That Are No Longer Playable in Call of Duty

1 years ago By AI Smith

The Call of Duty franchise has a rich arsenal of diverse and varied weapons which the players can choose from to claim their dominance on the virtual battlefield. Among these numerous kinds of weapons, knives have often been a favorite for players who seek close-quarters combat and stealthy approaches.

Over time, as the series has progressed and new game installments have been released, certain knives have lost their existence and are no longer available for players to use. In this article, we’ll delve into five knives that are no longer playable in Call of Duty games.

5 Knives That Are No Longer Playable in Call of Duty

Commando Knife – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

The Commando Knife was one of the best knives in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. To date, the knife remains iconic for its unique appearance and kill animations. It was a tactical knife that was a lethal choice for players who choose stealth and speed. It offered a satisfying melee experience. However, the Commando Knife was later taken off the game due to changes in gameplay mechanics and balancing. It is still a nostalgic feeling for several fans to talk or hear about the Commando Knife.

Butterfly Knife – Call of Duty: Black Ops III

As part of the various customization choices in Call of Duty: Black Ops III, the Butterfly Knife arrived. Players enjoyed it because of its beautiful and quick animations. However, the Butterfly Knife vanished from the arsenal as later versions Call of Duty games were published. Some people yearned for the beautiful and satisfying melee combat that this knife added to the game in its absence.

Thermite Knife – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) edition brought an unique twist to the Thermite Knife and its melee combat. Unlike traditional knives, the Thermite Knife had the ability to add an explosive element simply by attaching a thermite charge to enemies. It caused great fiery chaos upon impact. While this innovation was able to add a new layer of strategy in the game, the Thermite Knife was eventually removed from the game. It was possibly removed due to its balance issues or the complexity it added to the gameplay dynamics.

Karambit – Call of Duty: Ghosts

The Karambit, is to date popular for its distinctive curved blade and origins in Southeast Asia. The knife made its appearance in Call of Duty: Ghosts. This knife was enjoyed by players for its aesthetic appeal as well as for the thrill it brought in for mastering its unique animations. However, to fans’ dismay, the Karambit did not find a spot in subsequent Call of Duty titles.

Riot Shield Knives – Various Installments

The Riot Shield knives are still seen in the different Call of Duty games, however, it is often less prevalent now. Players took delight in the challenge of using the shield for defense purposes. Players could easily rely on the knives for close-quarters takedowns. The shield came with a set of different ability knives. Now even if the knives appear in some games, their dynamics are altered to close-range encounters in the franchise.

The advancement of the Call of Duty series has managed to bring forth a variety of weapons. Each of which contributes to the diverse and engaging gameplay experience that fans enjoy so much.

Although some of the Call of Duty knives have been removed from the game due to its evolution, their absence is still felt in certain combats.  These knives featured unique animations, strategies, and styles for players who enjoyed their distinctiveness.

As the franchise continues to add more and more updates, players can only hope that future updates will somehow get these knives back or have an upgraded version of these knives in future games.
